Cooperation with Soc Trang province to develop the continuous education model

On March 31, 2023, the delegation of the Department of Education & Training and the School Boards of 37 high schools in Soc Trang province led by Mr. Chau Tuan Hong - Director of the Department visited and worked with Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU). Working with the delegation were the representatives from TDTU including Dr. Tran Trong Dao - President, and leaders of related units.

Since 2018, TDTU and Soc Trang province have cooperated successfully in many fields, especially in education, with 505 students of the province studying at the University. TDTU has accompanied the province’s students in career counseling activities as well as visiting and experiencing the higher education environment. TDTU has exempted and reduced more than 1.5 billion VND of tuition fees and granted more than 1.1 billion VND to support students of the province with various forms such as admission priority scholarships for high schools signing an agreement with TDTU, scholarship for the valedictorian in the entrance exam, scholarships for students under the preferential treatment policy, and priority scholarships for popular groups of majors. In particular, the rate of students who have a job within 1 year after graduation reaches 99.6%. Also, they are always highly appreciated by businesses for their discipline and professional capacity.

At the meeting, Mr. Chau Tuan Hong expressed his impression of TDTU's innovations in the system of facilities, teaching staff and curriculums. He believed that TDTU's Finnish model of general education and teaching activities can be applied to high schools in the province. At the same time, the Department of Education and Training has invited TDTU to participate in consulting and providing information on majors, admission methods and scholarship policies for students of Soc Trang province at the admission counseling program organized by the province in the near future.

In addition, the principals of high schools assessed that TDTU has a continuous education model, with the orientation of focusing on learners and implementing many practical activities. The representative of Hoang Dieu High School, Dr. Phung Kim Phu - Principal especially wished that the positive values of TDTU will be widely spread to teachers and students of Soc Trang province in particular and the whole country in general. He proposed building an education ecosystem, in which high school training is the premise for higher education, contributing to early and sustainable career development orientation, evoking passion for scientific research among high school students.

On this occasion, TDTU together with the School Boards of 37 high schools in Soc Trang province signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement in developing education, fostering and improving professional capacity for teachers in the province through academic talk shows and seminars, cooperation in scientific research and technology transfer for high schools, career counseling, and scholarship support and accommodation for students of the province, contributing to provide the province with high-quality human resources to meet the needs of socio-economic development, especially in the key industries.
